This category is for reporting scientific and public health evaluations as well as operational research. Abstracts in Category 1 should demonstrate rigorous scientific methodology and contribute new knowledge to the field of public health.

Abstract Structure Requirements

All scientific research abstracts must follow this specific structure and include each section with clear headings:

1 Background

State the study objectives, study question/hypothesis or describe the challenge addressed by the research. Provide sufficient context to understand the significance of your research and its relevance to public health.

2 Design/Methods

Describe study design, setting, desired outcomes, procedures and techniques used to collect and analyse data. Include a description of appropriate statistical analysis.

Include:

  • • Study design (e.g., cross-sectional, cohort, randomized controlled trial)
  • • Study setting and population
  • • Sample size and sampling method
  • • Data collection procedures
  • • Statistical analysis methods

3 Results

Present specific findings to date. Include key statistics, effect sizes, confidence intervals, and p-values where appropriate. Focus on the most important findings that address your research question.

4 Conclusions

Describe the implications of the results presented and summarise key recommendations. Explain specific findings on how the research addressed the study question or challenge. Discuss limitations and implications for public health practice or policy.
